Breaking News: Duke’s Cooper Flagg Makes Unexpected NBA Future Announcement Ahead of April 26 Deadline

It’s transfer portal season for the Duke Blue Devils, and they’re also focused on landing five-star prospect Nate Ament. But the big question on every Duke fan’s mind is whether Cooper Flagg will declare for the NBA Draft, where he’s widely projected to be the No. 1 overall pick by Utah.

This uncertainty wouldn’t be nearly as significant if Flagg hadn’t openly mentioned the possibility of returning to Duke for a second season. With the rise of NIL deals, staying in college remains a viable option.

“The millions Flagg has made through NIL could give him pause—something few expected when he committed to Duke. It’s a testament to how much the college basketball landscape has shifted,” noted Jonathan Givony.

Flagg’s freshman season has been historically dominant—arguably more so than legends like Carmelo Anthony and Zion Williamson. If he comes back for another year, he has a chance to solidify his legacy as one of the greatest players in NCAA history.

He addressed his future on ESPN Friday night, reflecting on the year and what comes next.

Cooper Flagg Shared Surprising Way Jon Scheyer Won Him Over During Duke Recruitment

“It was an incredible year filled with great people and strong relationships. Now, I need time to think—maybe a few days, a week, even a month. I’ll talk it over with my family and coaches and figure out what’s best for me,” Flagg said.

While head coach Jon Scheyer would love to see Flagg head to the NBA in June, the final choice lies with Flagg himself. But with the April 26 deadline approaching, his decision will need to come soon.
