While many of the nation’s top basketball prospects are focused on the NBA Draft, one standout former five-star recruit is preparing for another year of college basketball.
After a deep NCAA Tournament run that ended in the Final Four, Duke is facing the loss of several key players from Jon Scheyer’s roster. However, guard Caleb Foster is set to return and play a significant role for the Blue Devils in the 2025–26 season.
Foster, a 6-foot-5 guard out of Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, California, joined Duke as a highly-touted recruit. In April, he announced his decision to come back for a third season. Since then, he’s been focused on offseason training and development.
In a recent video shared on social media, Foster expressed his commitment to improvement:
“Phenomenal work today, bro. I got better today. I lifted. Did conditioning. Got in the gym with my boy ‘5,’ my cousin ‘5.’ A little better every day. That’s the goal, man. That’s the process, man. Thank you, God, that I am healthy, that I get to do this. Duke nation, I love ya’ll.”
As a freshman, Foster played in 27 games before an ankle injury cut his season short in February. He bounced back last season, appearing in 38 games and averaging 4.9 points per contest.
During Duke’s Final Four appearance, Foster played 13 minutes, contributing four rebounds and an assist, though he didn’t score. Earlier in the tournament, he dropped 12 points in a commanding 93–49 opening-round win against Mount St. Mary’s.
Looking to the upcoming season, Foster is expected to be an integral piece of a retooled Duke lineup alongside Isaiah Evans, Nikolas Khamenia, Cameron Boozer, and Patrick Ngongba II. The team will look to fill the void left by departing stars Cooper Flagg, Kon Knueppel, Tyrese Proctor, Khaman Maluach, and Sion James.
The Blue Devils aim to capture their sixth national title — and their first since 2015 — following their recent Final Four run in San Antonio, the program’s first since 2022.
