Breaking News: Giants Owner Makes Huge Announcement Regarding Future of HC Brian Daboll

New York Giants owner John Mara made a major statement Wednesday night about the futures of head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen.

Over the last decade, Mara has changed coaches on a regular basis. Since Tom Coughlin’s last season in 2015, the Giants have had five coaches: Ben McAdoo, Steve Spagnuolo (interim), Pat Shurmur, Joe Judge, and now Daboll. None of the previous four coaches lasted more than two seasons.

Daboll in his third season with New York after leading the team to a surprise playoff berth in 2022, going 9-7-1 and defeating the 13-4 Vikings in the first round, the Giants have gone the wrong way. In 2023, the Giants finished 6-11.
Despite the difficulties, Mara does not want to make any hasty judgments on Daboll or Schoen. He wants to give his head coach and general manager the opportunity to turn things around and develop their own roster.

Mara, speaking at the premiere of “The Duke: The Giant Life of Wellington Mara,” stated that he had no plans to make any modifications during or after the season. He stated that he is devoted to both Daboll and Schoen and is confident that they will turn things around in New York.

“Obviously we’re all very disappointed with where we are right now,” Mara told the crowd. “But I’ll tell one thing: We’re not making any changes this season. I don’t plan to make any adjustments in the offseason either.

He advocated patience throughout the process of turning around the Giants.

Neither Daboll nor Schoen were present when the Giants selected quarterback Daniel Jones with the sixth overall choice in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Schoen was hired in January 2022, and his first act as general manager was to hire Daboll. Schoen and Daboll are in their third year together and believe they’re putting the elements together to form a contender. However, the squad will struggle without solid quarterback play, and it is unclear whether Jones is the proper candidate for the job.

Schoen and Daboll were responsible for Jones’ four-year, $160 million contract extension in March 2023. However, the Giants were coming off a surprising playoff berth and thought they needed to restore some consistency to the club. Unfortunately, Jones only appeared in six games in 2023 before suffering a season-ending torn ACL.

Giants release quarterback Daniel Jones

The New York Giants find themselves in the middle of a quarterback dilemma just three weeks into the 2025 season. Veteran Russell Wilson was brought in to stabilize the offense, but his play has been inconsistent, leading to questions about whether he’s the right answer.

At the same time, rookie first-round pick Jaxson Dart is waiting for his opportunity. The former college star has impressed in practice and carries the promise of being the franchise’s future, but head coach Brian Daboll has so far stuck with Wilson’s experience under center.

With the team off to a rough start, pressure is mounting on the coaching staff to make a change. If the Giants continue to struggle, calls for Dart to take over will only grow louder. For now, the Giants are balancing between short-term stability and long-term development, making the quarterback position the most closely watched storyline of their season.
