One of Kentucky’s rising stars is showing support for an old friend, even as it comes with some disappointment.
Trent Noah, the in-state freshman standout from Harlan County and a fan favorite among Big Blue Nation, spoke about teammate decision to transfer from Kentucky to Ole Miss. Top star, Kentucky’s all-time leading high school scorer, chose to join the Rebels after spending just one season in Lexington.
“It definitely stung,” Noah admitted. “I did everything I could to keep him here. He’s one of my good friends, and he was an excellent player. But at the end of the day, you’ve gotta do what’s best for you, and that’s what he thought was best for him. I love him and wish him the best. I’m not looking forward to playing him. That’s for sure.”
The two freshmen had leaned on each other throughout their first year at Kentucky, supporting one another through the ups and downs of adjusting to college basketball. While Perry opted for a new beginning, Noah reaffirmed his commitment to the Wildcats.
“No. Nah. This is the greatest place on earth,” Noah said when asked if he considered transferring. “I love Coach Pope’s vision for me, and he sees kind of the same path that I see. That’s what we’re looking to do this year, and on the way, win No. 9.”
Kentucky fans will get their first glimpse of the new-look roster this fall—and perhaps a heated SEC matchup between two former teammates who’ve taken different paths but remain close friends.
