The Sacramento Kings don’t seem interested in entering a full rebuild. Instead, they’re looking to retool their roster around DeMar DeRozan, Zach LaVine, and Domantas Sabonis. One clear need for the team this offseason is a point guard. Interim head coach Doug Christie, who replaced Mike Brown, could also be on the way out.
He posted a 27-24 record, marked by several extended winning and losing streaks. While the players appear to enjoy playing for him, new general manager Scott Perry might look to make a change. Christie performed well overall, but was never officially named the permanent head coach.
With a number of coaching changes happening around the league, experienced names like Mike Budenholzer, Michael Malone, and Taylor Jenkins may be seeking new opportunities. Others, such as Nick Nurse, Doc Rivers, and Willie Green, might also be on the hot seat. It’s uncertain which of these coaches would be interested in leading a mid-tier team without a true superstar, but it’s a situation worth watching.
Coaching the Sacramento Kings hasn’t exactly been a model of stability—they’ve cycled through 14 interim and full-time head coaches since the Bush era. Still, if a proven coach is interested in taking the reins, it’s probably worth considering.

That said, if new GM Scott Perry intends to keep the veteran core intact and they support Doug Christie, it might be smarter to stick with him for the sake of continuity. Otherwise, there’s a risk that key players like Domantas Sabonis could follow De’Aaron Fox’s lead and ask out, especially if they’re unhappy with yet another major change after Mike Brown’s departure.
