Breaking News: Matt LaFleur Confirms Packers Reuniting with All-Pro Player

At the start of the 2025 NFL offseason, many anticipated the Green Bay Packers would pursue a top-tier wide receiver in free agency or explore a trade to bring in a proven No. 1 pass catcher. High-profile names such as Tee Higgins, DK Metcalf, and Davante Adams were all rumored targets for Green Bay even before the free agency window opened.

However, none of those players ended up in Green Bay. Instead, the Packers used their first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft to select wide receiver Matthew Golden — marking the first time since 2002 that the team has taken a receiver in the opening round. They also picked Savion Williams in the third round, continuing their approach of surrounding quarterback Jordan Love with youthful offensive talent.

Green Bay Packers Head Coach Matt LaFleur Reveals Team Reuniting with Davante Adams

Davante Adams, who built his reputation in Green Bay from 2014 to 2021 with five Pro Bowl selections and three First Team All-Pro honors, had been a major part of the Packers’ offense during his tenure, setting or tying several single-season receiving records.

Since trading Adams before the 2022 season, the Packers have lacked a true No. 1 wide receiver. With Adams recently released by the New York Jets, many fans hoped Green Bay would bring him back. Instead, Adams chose to sign a two-year deal with the Los Angeles Rams.

Though no formal offer was made, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur recently acknowledged that the team had internal discussions about the possibility.

“When you’re talking about a player of that caliber, of course conversations are had,” LaFleur said during an appearance on the Up and Adams Show. “Sometimes it comes together, sometimes it doesn’t.”

Adams continued his strong play in 2024, splitting time between the Las Vegas Raiders and the Jets, finishing the season with 85 catches for 1,063 yards and eight touchdowns — marking his fifth straight 1,000-yard campaign.
