Only two days after securing a commitment from 2026 four-star Matt Ludwig, Steve Casula and the Michigan Wolverines have added another tight end to their recruiting efforts with yet another top prospect.
Standing 6-foot-6 and weighing 200 pounds, he is from Denver, Colorado, and has been on Michigan’s radar for about six months. Newly promoted coach Steve Casula extended an offer to him back in December and has made multiple visits to Colorado this year, including just last week. he also made a visit to Ann Arbor this spring.
His father, Sherdrick Bonner, shared his thoughts with On3’s EJ Holland earlier this year: “The numbers speak for themselves. Colston (Loveland) is like a wide receiver playing a physical tight end role when needed. He can make defenders miss and catch passes in tight windows. We’ve watched plenty of film—it’s been impressive. There are so many positives. Michigan’s brand means a lot—growing up, the blue helmet with the maize wolverine stood for something. Plus, Sherrone Moore and Steve Casula have handled everything amazingly. It’s been great.”
Earlier this spring, Bonner narrowed his options to Michigan and Minnesota. Although he had official visits scheduled for both schools, he chose to end his recruitment before making those trips.
247Sports’ Greg Biggins scouted Bonner in February and described him as a long, athletic hybrid pass-catcher who currently plays receiver but could develop into a tight end. He noted Bonner’s lean frame and the question of how much weight he could add to determine his long-term position and upside. Biggins highlighted Bonner’s natural ability to catch contested balls, his basketball background that shows in his body control and spatial awareness, and his smooth route running, though he mentioned Bonner lacks some burst and suddenness typical of top receivers. Overall, Biggins called him a P4 prospect with strong physical tools.
This description suggests Bonner could be a high-floor, solid skillset tight end who may need a few years to fully develop—similar to Marlin Klein. This would make him a perfect complement to Matt Ludwig, who is expected to be a more versatile player likely to contribute early.
Besides Michigan and Minnesota, Bonner received offers from programs like Penn State, Tennessee, Miami, Florida, UCLA, Nebraska, Washington, and Colorado.
With Bonner’s commitment, Michigan’s 2026 recruiting class now includes seven players: Ludwig, four-star quarterback Brady Smigiel, four-star offensive lineman Bear McWhorter, four-star cornerback Brody Jennings, three-star wide receiver Jaylen Pile, and three-star edge rusher Tariq Boney.
