The Auburn Tigers made a major move this past week, parting ways with head coach Hugh Freeze.
Freeze was in his third season at the helm, compiling a 15–19 record during his tenure. The Tigers currently sit at 4–5 in 2025, with losses to Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Georgia, Missouri, and Kentucky.
With three games remaining, Auburn has turned its attention to finding a new head coach. While several names have been floated, the program is not expected to finalize any hire until after the regular season ends.

On Tuesday, BetOnline released updated odds for Auburn’s next head coach, which quickly circulated on social media. Tulane’s Jon Sumrall leads the field at +150 odds, per Sports Media’s Taylor Korn.
He’s followed by interim coach DJ Durkin (+200), former Penn State head coach James Franklin (+400), and Arizona State’s Kenny Dillingham (+900). Georgia Tech’s Brent Key and former Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher also appear on the list at +1200.
Sumrall, now in his second season at Tulane, led the Green Wave to a 9–5 record last year and has them at 6–2 so far this season. Before that, he posted an impressive 23–4 mark during his time at Troy.
As the coaching search unfolds, Auburn will try to win at least two of its remaining three matchups—against No. 16 Vanderbilt, Mercer, and No. 4 Alabama—to reach bowl eligibility.
