The New York Rangers cut 13 players from their roster on Saturday, leaving 48 players as they prepare for their preseason.
Eight of the 13 players who were removed from the camp roster will attend training camp with the Hartford Wolf Pack, the Rangers’ AHL affiliate. The Rangers’ rookies split two games against the Philadelphia Flyers’ rookies in Allentown, Pennsylvania, with goaltenders Hugo Ollas and Callum Tung standing out. The Blueshirts fell 4-3 in overtime to Ollas on Friday, but triumphed 5-2 the following night with Tung in goal.
The Wolf Pack’s other training camp participants are forwards Gavin Hain, Kyle Jackson, Zakary Karpa, and Sullivan Mack, as well as defensemen Chris Merisier-Ortiz and Cooper Moore.
Three additional players, forward Raoul Boilard, defensemen Artem Gonchar, and Evan Passmore, will return to their junior teams. Boilard scored a goal during the rookie game last Friday.
Tim Lovell and Corbin Vaughan, two more defensemen, were discharged from their amateur tryouts. Vaughan gained recognition after getting into a fight with Flyers rookie Sawyer Boulton in the second rookie game.
