BREAKING NEWS: Phillies Confirm $120M Deal For a 2-time World Series champion, sparking Major Reactions about Alec Bohm

One of the most sought-after names on the free-agent market this offseason is a veteran infielder, prized for his experience, leadership, and winning pedigree. The 32-year-old infielder has officially opted out of his contract with the Boston Red Sox, seeking a team where he can close out his MLB career on a high note.

“He has officially opted out of his contract with the Red Sox, per a report from Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe. Bregman will return to free agency, leaving the final two years and $80 million (including $40 million in deferred money) of his deal with Boston on the table,” wrote Nick Deeds of MLB Trade Rumors.

Bregman is now positioned for a lucrative offseason that could see him land with a World Series contender.

“Both Alex Speier of The Boston Globe and Tyler Milliken of WEEI compared his situation to Matt Chapman’s. The third baseman signed a short-term deal with the San Francisco Giants in 2024, had a bounce-back season, and then secured a six-year, $151 million extension,” noted BoSox Injection’s Katie Manganelli.

According to Deadspin’s David Brown, one team to watch could be the Philadelphia Phillies.

“Word is that Bregman soon will opt out of his contract with the Red Sox, which should open the door for more bidders this time around, since there won’t be a qualifying-offer draft pick attached. He turns 32 in March, still plays solid defense at third base, ranks among the top 12–15% of hitters in the league, and continues to be a respected clubhouse leader,” Brown wrote.
