The Philadelphia Phillies have solidified their reputation as one of the most talked-about teams in MLB’s prediction circles. Following a string of shrewd moves at the 2025 trade deadline, the club continues to surface in rumors involving high-profile players—both in trade talks and free agency pursuits.
As the offseason unfolds, Philadelphia’s front office faces several pivotal decisions. Designated hitter Kyle Schwarber and starting pitcher Ranger Suárez headline the list of players whose futures must be addressed, while outfielder Harrison Bader’s potential free agency adds another layer of complexity. Should the Phillies opt not to re-sign Bader, they’ll need to find a way to replace his impact in the lineup—and recent reports suggest the team could look toward Boston, with trade discussions surrounding a prominent Red Sox star gaining traction.

The Athletic’s Jim Bowden recently unveiled his list of potential trade candidates for the offseason, and Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran ranks at No. 4. Among the teams Bowden links to Duran are the Philadelphia Phillies, who could be a serious contender for his services.
“Duran’s name keeps coming up in trade rumors, and it now sounds like the Red Sox will move on from him this winter,” Bowden wrote. “Teams such as the Phillies, Dodgers, Tigers, Guardians, and Rangers would love to land him. He’s also controllable through the 2028 season, so it would take a huge haul for the Red Sox to move him.”

At one point, Duran appeared to be a near-lock to remain in Boston following his breakout 2024 campaign. However, with the Red Sox shifting toward a youth-driven rebuild and facing a crowded outfield picture, it makes sense that they might explore dealing the 28-year-old speedster while his value is high.

For the Phillies, Duran represents a logical fit. The team’s outfield depth is uncertain, especially if Harrison Bader departs in free agency. With Nick Castellanos widely expected to move on, the need for a dynamic, athletic outfielder is clear. Duran’s combination of speed, energy, and team control through 2028 makes him an ideal target for a front office that’s shown a willingness to part with top prospects to win now.
If Philadelphia can swing a deal, Duran could bring the type of spark the lineup needs—while giving the Phillies long-term stability in the outfield.
