Breaking News: Top Blockbuster Trade Lands $163 Million Point Guard With Miami Heat

The Miami Heat are in search of a long-term solution at point guard, with Terry Rozier expected to move on this summer. Since being traded from the Charlotte Hornets, Rozier has struggled to find a consistent role in Erik Spoelstra’s system.

As a result, team president Pat Riley may still be hunting for a reliable floor general. Yahoo Sports’ Kevin O’Connor recently proposed a trade that could address Miami’s need while also benefiting the San Antonio Spurs. The hypothetical deal is as follows:

Miami Heat receive: De’Aaron Fox
San Antonio Spurs receive: Duncan Robinson, Haywood Highsmith, Nikola Jović, the No. 20 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, and unprotected first-round picks in 2030 and 2032.

O’Connor explained that Fox would significantly upgrade the Heat’s point guard position, while the Spurs would acquire valuable draft assets and three capable shooters, including the promising young forward Jović.

Fox’s speed and rim-attacking ability would bring a new level of tempo to Miami’s offense, and his past success working with a playmaking big man makes him a strong potential fit alongside Bam Adebayo.

The Spurs, who traded for Fox from the Sacramento Kings last offseason, could find themselves with a crowded backcourt if they draft a top guard like Dylan Harper. Given that, turning Fox into long-term assets and shooters might be a wise move as they continue building around Victor Wembanyama.

When Will De'Aaron Fox Make His Spurs Debut?

Heat Urged to go All-In on Kevin Durant

ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith recently expressed that Kevin Durant would be the perfect fit for the Miami Heat. Speaking on an episode of First Take, Smith said:

“They need a top scoring option who can also play defense, and Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo are no slouches,” Smith noted. “Jimmy Butler’s great, but that’s not his role anymore. KD is that guy — he’ll give you 27 points a night.”

Durant would be a dream addition for Miami this offseason, but acquiring him from the Phoenix Suns won’t be easy given the expected competition. As a result, a trade for De’Aaron Fox could emerge as a more attainable and appealing option if the Spurs are willing to deal him.

Regardless, the Heat have several potential paths to upgrade their roster heading into next season.

Heat Should Take a Gap Year

Dan Favale of Bleacher Report recently outlined why the Miami Heat should consider adopting a “gap year” strategy.

“With no clear-cut solution currently on the roster, Miami needs to look outside the organization,” Favale wrote. “And that may lead to an uncomfortable truth: the Heat might be better off taking a gap year. They lack spending power in this free agency cycle but could free up over $30 million next summer, along with controlling their own first-round pick. Taking a step back now makes more sense than forcing a trade or pretending the current roster is capable of contending without a major addition.”

If the Heat fail to land a star like Kevin Durant and don’t see De’Aaron Fox—or any other trade target—as the right fit, the smartest move may be to hold firm. Entering the 2026 offseason with significant cap space could allow Miami to quickly rise back to contender status in the East. Whether Pat Riley has the patience for that approach, however, remains to be seen.
