BREAKING: No. 1 Overall Prospect Tyran Stokes Drops Big Message Before Kentucky Visit

Kentucky is set to welcome one of the most highly anticipated recruits in the 2026 class, as No. 1 overall prospect Tyran Stokes has revealed plans to visit Lexington on Monday, according to NBA.com reporter Krysten Peek. With his decision drawing heavy attention across college basketball, the recruitment battle is widely viewed as a two-team race between the Kentucky Wildcats and the Kansas Jayhawks as the late signing period approaches on April 15.

Stokes indicated that the visit to Kentucky will come shortly after the Hoop Summit, and he made it clear that fans should be watching closely as his recruitment nears a conclusion. He also pointed out that this upcoming trip will carry added importance due to changes within the program since his last time on campus.

“I think I will be going to Kentucky sometime this next coming week, I would say — anytime after Hoop Summit,” he told Peek. “Be on the lookout for that. … It’s a different coaching staff since the last time I was on campus, so just being able to go out there and talk to them and see what their plan is for me. Just going out there to see what they’re talking about.”

While Kentucky is making a strong push, Kansas remains firmly in the mix. Stokes noted that the Jayhawks’ coaching staff has stayed consistent in their communication and continues to involve him in their long-term vision, particularly as they shape their roster through the transfer portal and other top recruits.

“Coach Self and coach KT (Kurtis Townsend) and the rest of the staff have been keeping me in the loop with what’s going on, who they’re looking at, players they want to put me with, and TK (Tay Kinney) with, if I were to go there,” he continued. “Just being able to talk to them and listen to conversations, see what players they’re getting, it helps me prepare and shows they’re really locked in on trying to get me.”

In a four-minute interview with Peek, Stokes also discussed what will ultimately guide his final decision and suggested he is aiming to wrap things up sooner rather than later, though he stopped short of setting an exact date.

As Kentucky prepares for one final pitch, the question remains whether Mark Pope can secure the commitment of the nation’s top prospect before he closes in on a decision.
