The New York Giants have been linked with several quarterbacks ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft, including Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders, who is projected as a potential Top 10 selection. However, one of the team’s more debated strategies might involve drafting a quarterback—just not Sanders.
According to SNY’s Connor Hughes, the Giants are considering trading up from their No. 34 overall pick to the back end of the first round to select Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart. Reportedly, head coach Brian Daboll is pushing for this move, possibly overriding general manager Joe Schoen, due to his strong admiration for Dart as a prospect.
Hughes notes that Daboll values Dart’s toughness—a key trait in his quarterback evaluations. Dart’s ability to produce in college and his knack for throwing deep passes likely also contributed to Daboll’s high opinion of him.
The Giants may present an ideal landing spot for Dart, who could benefit from sitting behind veterans like Russell Wilson or Jameis Winston as he adapts to the NFL. His struggles under pressure and experience in a simplified college offense suggest he might need time to develop.
Dart’s strengths—his deep-ball accuracy, timing, and ability to throw into tight windows—could convince Daboll that he’s capable of ending the Giants’ post-Eli Manning struggles at quarterback.
Expected to be drafted late in the first or early in the second round, Dart might still be available at pick 34. However, teams like the Steelers, Rams, and Browns select ahead of the Giants and could take him before then, possibly over someone like Jalen Milroe.
If the Giants are sold on Dart’s potential, trading up to secure him would be a justifiable move. In a quarterback-light draft, he might be a safer bet than gambling on a more uncertain prospect like Tyler Shough later on.
