BREAKING: NY Mets Confirms Stunning Decision Regarding All-Star ace Freddy Peralta

The New York Mets have made a remarkable rebound after a rocky start to the 2026 offseason, which saw them lose two key stars, Pete Alonso and Edwin Diaz, early on. Despite those setbacks, the team made significant moves to replenish their roster, including a headline-grabbing trade for two-time All-Star pitcher Freddy Peralta.

Peralta appears poised to become the Mets’ long-awaited ace, something the franchise has been missing for years. However, according to FanSided’s Mark Powell, a contract extension for the former Brewers star isn’t on the horizon just yet.

“The Mets acquired Freddy Peralta this winter even though he’s entering the final year of his contract. Owner Steve Cohen has the resources to make a major offer, but currently, talks about an extension aren’t happening,” Powell wrote. “FanSided’s Robert Murray confirmed that any deal will have to wait. While some teams set Opening Day deadlines for contract extensions, it’s unclear if the Mets follow that rule. Peralta will anchor a rotation featuring promising young arms like Nolan McLean and possibly Jonah Tong. David Stearns trusts his player development system and won’t be rushed into a decision with Peralta.”

Peralta had a stellar 2025 season, finishing 17-6 with a 2.70 ERA, 204 strikeouts, and a 1.075 WHIP over 176 innings. His performance cements him as the Mets’ top pitcher, and locking him up long-term could secure the team’s future dominance.

Currently, Peralta has one year left on his contract, and his market value sits around a five-year, $131 million deal—well within the Mets’ spending power. While the team remains confident in its young pitchers stepping up, securing Peralta during his prime would give them stability and championship potential for years to come.
