BREAKING: Otega Oweh sends heartfelt message to Kentucky as he finally says goodbye

After two impactful seasons in Lexington, Otega Oweh has officially addressed fans of the Kentucky Wildcats, reflecting on a journey that blended promise, growth, and unfinished business. As speculation builds around his future, Oweh’s heartfelt message has provided clarity on just how much his time in blue and white has meant.

Oweh, a dynamic guard known for his athleticism and defensive energy, became a key contributor during his tenure under head coach Mark Pope. Across two seasons, he steadily carved out a larger role, earning increased minutes and responsibilities on both ends of the floor. His ability to attack the rim, defend multiple positions, and bring intensity off the bench made him a valuable piece in Kentucky’s rotation.

Key matchup: Otega Oweh leads the way for Kentucky's productive offense

During the most recent campaign, Oweh featured regularly for the Wildcats, appearing in a majority of games and providing consistent effort even when the team struggled to find rhythm. Kentucky’s season ultimately fell short of expectations, with inconsistency plaguing both their offensive execution and defensive identity. Despite flashes of brilliance, the Wildcats were unable to translate their talent into sustained success, leaving players and fans alike searching for answers.

Still, Oweh’s development remained one of the bright spots. His growth as a two-way player and his commitment to the program reflected the culture Pope aimed to instill in his first years at the helm. Teammates and coaches frequently praised his work ethic and team-first mentality, qualities that endeared him to the Big Blue Nation.

As the offseason begins and roster decisions loom, Oweh took a moment to express his gratitude and emotions, delivering a message that resonated deeply with Kentucky supporters:

“Just want to say thank you to BBN. These past two years have been amazing,” Oweh added. “Thank you, Coach Pope, obviously, for bringing me in. We fell short this year but I’m sure the guys next year are gonna come and remember this and get the job done. Playing here at Kentucky, that’s what the fans and everyone deserves is to win. I’m disappointed that we didn’t get it done this year but these past two years have been amazing. Life-changing. I’m just thankful for my teammates that I played with last year, this year, I’ll definitely never forget it, for sure.”

“This is home forever now,” Oweh said.

While his next step remains uncertain, Oweh’s words leave little doubt about the lasting bond he has built with the program. Regardless of where his basketball journey leads, his time at Kentucky has clearly left a permanent mark—both on him and on the fans who watched him grow.
