Breaking: Panthers Taking a Careful Approach with Outstanding Star Hamstring Injury

Panther’s rising star got off to an impressive start with the Carolina Panthers, but his early momentum has been temporarily derailed.

Despite being a sixth-round pick and somewhat overshadowed by the Panthers’ top selection, Tetairoa McMillan at No. 8 overall, Horn quickly turned heads during rookie minicamp with his elite speed, explosiveness, and strong work ethic. He continued to impress during organized team activities (OTAs), raising hopes for a potentially impactful rookie season in 2025.

Unfortunately, Horn recently hit his first setback. He was absent from the media-access portion of Tuesday’s OTAs, with head coach Dave Canales later confirming the wideout is currently rehabbing a hamstring issue. While the injury doesn’t appear to be serious, the Panthers are playing it safe and won’t rush him back.

“We’re just rehabbing him. He’s in return to play, and then as soon as we feel like he’s ready to get back out there, we’ll bring him back out,” Canales said via Panthers.com. “Jimmy gives us a lot of options… he’s a receiver first and foremost. He can stretch the field. He can separate, and he’s got a lot of energy and passion he plays with, so he’s going to give himself a great chance to help us.”

In many ways, the timing could be worse. With several months still to go before the season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Horn has time to fully recover without pressure.

Horn’s electric play style makes him susceptible to soft-tissue injuries like this, so caution is wise. There’s no rush at this point in the offseason, and the Panthers seem committed to making sure he’s fully healthy before returning to action.

Once he’s back, Horn will look to build on his strong early showings. The Panthers’ receiver group is competitive, but Horn brings a unique spark—his agility and return skills offer added value that could earn him a role on both offense and special teams.

For now, Carolina is wisely prioritizing long-term gain over short-term reps, ensuring Horn can return to full strength and maximize his potential impact.
