This season, the Philadelphia Phillies are ready to contend for the World Series. With Zack Wheeler leading the pitching staff and Kyle Schwarber spearheading the offense, they have more potential than ever. The Phillies may face a roster shortage in the upcoming weeks as a few injured studs are expected to return off the injured list soon. Zachary Rotman of FanSided officially stated that when Alec Bohm return from injury, the Phillies cut connections with (or maybe option) veteran utilityman Weston Wilson.
“Bohm will be the team’s everyday third baseman when he returns, thus creating a platoon at second base with Edmundo Sosa and Bryson Stott, and creating a competition for who will platoon with Max Kepler in left field,” Rotman explained. “This season, both Otto Kemp and Weston Wilson have played in that capacity. Wilson has done well since being called up following the All-Star break, but it would be difficult for them to send Kemp back down to Triple-A.
“Kemp is slicing even though his overall numbers aren’t great. He has hit two of his four big league home runs this season versus Southpaws, going 268/.362/.463. Wilson really hasn’t outperformed Kepler this season, and his.825 OPS against lefties indicates that he would make a perfect platoon partner.

Wilson is more likely to be optioned by the Phillies than to be released or designated for assignment. The Phillies are more likely to keep Otto Kemp on the roster than Wilson because Kemp makes a little more sense as a platoon option alongside Max Kepler. Considering how well Wilson has been playing lately, it will be difficult to decide. There’s a chance Kemp will be demoted instead if he can maintain his popularity over the next few days.
