BREAKING: Philadelphia Phillies pitcher on Injury Leave Due To Severe injury

Aaron Nola, a pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies, will start his first injury rehabilitation game against Worcester at Triple-A Lehigh Valley. He has been out since May due to a fractured rib and a damaged right ankle.

Nola led batting practice. The 32-year-old right-hander will throw roughly 60 pitches in the Triple-A game, according to Phillies manager Rob Thomson on Saturday.

On May 8, while doing agility workouts, Nola injured her ankle. After two unsuccessful starts, he was placed on the injured list on May 15. Nola felt sore a couple days after throwing a bullpen session on June 1. On June 10, Thomson disclosed that an MRI had detected a stress fracture of a rib.

Aaron Nola has landed on the injured list for the first time due to a physical issue since way back in 2017. Before going down, he was having a rough season—posting a 1-7 record with a 6.16 ERA over nine starts and nearly 50 innings.

Meanwhile, right fielder Nick Castellanos was not in Saturday’s lineup after tweaking his left knee during Friday night’s win over the Yankees. Phillies manager Rob Thomson explained that the injury happened on the final play of the game, when Castellanos ran back toward the outfield wall and jammed his knee. “He came in a bit sore today, so we’re giving him the day off and will check on him again tomorrow,” Thomson said.

There’s also an update on Alec Bohm. He’s expected to rejoin the Phillies on Sunday and travel with the team to Chicago, where the medical staff will take another look at him. Bohm fractured a rib on his left side after being hit by a fastball from Yu Darvish on July 12. He briefly returned after the All-Star break but was quickly put back on the injured list. According to Thomson, Bohm is “still a little sore,” so the team is taking a cautious approach.
