The Philadelphia Phillies appear poised for major changes this offseason. Whether it involves parting ways with Nick Castellanos, promoting prospects such as Justin Crawford and Andrew Painter, or bringing in outside talent, the roster is expected to look different next year.

Much of the public focus has centered on the futures of J. T. Realmuto and Kyle Schwarber, but a more intriguing issue is emerging inside the organization. MLB.com insider Mark Feinsand reports that, for the second year in a row, the Phillies are weighing a decision on Alec Bohm that could signal the end of his time in Philadelphia.
Feinsand notes that “there is also belief around the league that Philly could be in the market for a third baseman (Bregman, maybe?),” adding that such a move “would mean a trade of Alec Bohm.”
If the Phillies actively pursue a new third baseman this winter, the most likely outcome is that Bohm will be traded. The only scenarios in which he remains with the team are tied to major positional shifts. One option would be moving Bryce Harper back to right field. Another would be losing Schwarber in free agency and keeping Bohm as a corner infield reserve and designated hitter.

Bohm, now twenty nine, is entering his final year of club control and is part of trade speculation for the second consecutive offseason. His strongest season came in 2024, but a rough second half prevented the Phillies from finding a suitable trade last winter.
With just one season of team control remaining, rising pressure to retool after two straight NLDS exits, and renewed interest in adding a third baseman, Bohm’s exit feels increasingly possible. While he may not command a massive return, his ability to play both corner infield positions capably, along with a .287 batting average and a .741 OPS, should generate at least moderate interest from other clubs.
Bohm is certainly a player to monitor this offseason, as the long-time Phillies third baseman could be headed elsewhere if the team decides to shift direction at the hot corner.
