Breaking: Phillies-Yankees Agree Blockbuster Trade In Massive Swap Deal

The New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies each have notable infielders entering the final year of their contracts. Alec Bohm and Jazz Chisholm Jr. are both set to reach free agency after the upcoming season, but their recent trajectories differ. Chisholm is coming off an All-Star year, while Bohm has experienced some regression since his own All-Star appearance in 2024. Because of that gap in recent performance, a straight one-for-one exchange would not strongly benefit the Yankees, though Philadelphia may be more motivated to alter its roster mix.

Bleacher Report’s Zachary D. Rymer confirms a deal that attempts to balance value on both sides. In this trade, the Yankees acquire third baseman Alec Bohm and right-handed reliever Orion Kerkering, while the Phillies would receive second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. From New York’s perspective, if there is hesitation about committing long term money to Chisholm, similar concerns would exist with Bohm. The difference is that the Yankees would also gain Kerkering, a young and controllable bullpen arm who could provide meaningful depth to their relief corps.

Chisholm recently became just the third player in Yankees history to post a 30–30 season, a feat that will likely elevate his market value. As a result, he is expected to command a salary consistent with the elite second basemen in the sport, and the Yankees may be unwilling to meet that price point. Moving him could clear a path for prospect Jasson Lombard Jr. to eventually take over at second base during the season.

For New York, Bohm would represent a potential upgrade at third base over Ryan McMahon. Even in a platoon role, Bohm offers value, particularly against left-handed pitching. Over his career, he has hit .305 with an .862 OPS versus southpaws, making him an attractive option in favorable matchups.

Although Chisholm has expressed interest in remaining in New York, general manager Brian Cashman has said the organization is staying open-minded. Reports indicate the Yankees have already been willing to listen to trade offers, keeping scenarios like this one firmly on the table.
