The Las Vegas Raiders’ new leadership didn’t shy away from bold decisions during the 2025 NFL free agency period. They allowed key contributors like Robert Spillane, Nate Hobbs, and Tre’Von Moehrig to walk in favor of more budget-friendly replacements.
Under new general manager John Spytek, the team also had an aggressive approach to the NFL Draft, selecting a franchise-record 11 players. With head coach Pete Carroll emphasizing open competition, the offseason program has become even more vital for the Silver and Black.
However, one notable absence has lingered — star defensive tackle Christian Wilkins remains sidelined as he continues recovering from the broken foot he suffered in Week 5 last season against the Denver Broncos.
Safety Jeremy Chinn also raised concerns when he missed a recent OTA session, especially after signing a $16 million deal in free agency. But those fears were quickly eased, as The Athletic’s Tashan Reed reported Chinn was back on the field at Wednesday’s practice. Veteran defensive tackle Adam Butler and Wilkins, however, were still not in attendance.
Chinn, who spent last season with the Washington Commanders after four years with the Carolina Panthers, had a standout 2024 campaign, racking up 117 tackles, seven tackles for loss, five pass breakups, and one interception.
With both Tre’Von Moehrig and Marcus Epps departing, Chinn is expected to be a crucial piece in Patrick Graham’s defense — a veteran presence relied upon to anchor a revamped secondary.
The Raiders have one final OTA session on Thursday before they kick off mandatory minicamp next Monday. After that three-day stretch, the team will break until training camp later this summer.
