The Boston Red Sox turned heads this offseason by landing Ranger Suárez, a move few saw coming after the club missed out on Pete Alonso and allowed Alex Bregman to leave in free agency. While the pitching addition helped stabilize the roster, there’s still a sense that Boston needs one more impact move to fully win back the confidence of its fanbase.
According to FanSided’s Christopher Kline, the Red Sox may look back to the free-agent market to address their need for offense. One potential target is a familiar name who has been connected to Boston before and could provide the right-handed power the lineup currently lacks.
That player is Eugenio Suárez, a two-time All-Star coming off a massive power season. Kline believes Suárez represents one of the most realistic solutions as the Red Sox search for a replacement after Bregman’s departure. His ability to drive the ball, combined with Fenway Park’s dimensions, makes him an intriguing fit despite questions about age and defense.

Suárez put together an impressive 2025 campaign, posting a .228/.298/.526 slash line with 28 doubles, 49 home runs, and 118 RBIs across 159 games. As a right-handed hitter, he could benefit significantly from the Green Monster, turning hard contact into extra-base hits while maintaining his home-run power with a high launch-angle approach.
Financially, the move would also align with Boston’s desire to remain flexible. Suárez is projected to command a two-year deal worth around $29 million, though a shorter one-year contract with an option could be possible given the current market. That structure would allow the Red Sox to limit long-term risk while still adding a proven bat.
With the offseason nearing its end, Boston appears poised to make at least one more addition. Whether through a trade or a signing like Suárez, the Red Sox still have an opportunity to strengthen their roster and position themselves as legitimate contenders heading into the new season.
