South Carolina defensive lineman was reportedly taken into custody Tuesday on a marijuana-related charge, according to a report from the Charlotte Observer.
Per the report, law enforcement officers discovered “approximately 20 individual bags of green plant material consistent with marijuana” inside Miles’ vehicle. Authorities initially pulled him over “for an improper display of the vehicle tag and window tint violation,” and the traffic stop ultimately led to the arrest. Miles is currently facing a charge of Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana (First Offense).

Davonte Miles, who stands 6-foot-4 and weighs 280 pounds, joined the Gamecocks last season after spending three years at Bowling Green. Entering the transfer portal, he was ranked as the No. 87 defensive lineman available, according to the 247Sports transfer rankings.
In his first year at South Carolina, Miles appeared in 11 games, primarily serving as a backup defensive tackle. He recorded six total tackles and half a sack during the 2025 campaign. Prior to arriving in Columbia, Miles accumulated 26 total tackles across three seasons with Bowling Green, where he developed into a rotational presence along the defensive front.

Coming out of high school, Miles was viewed as a highly regarded prospect. He was rated the No. 24 overall player in the state of Michigan and the No. 119 defensive lineman nationally. His prep career included three all-state selections, highlighting his impact at the high school level.
South Carolina endured a difficult 2025 season, finishing 4-8 overall and placing second-to-last in the SEC standings. Miles’ legal situation now adds uncertainty as the program looks to rebound moving forward.
