Breaking: Vikings fans left hopeless as brutal injury confirmed on veteran star

Over the past few weeks, there’s been growing buzz about the Minnesota Vikings potentially signing free-agent cornerback Asante Samuel Jr., who has spent the last four seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers.

However, fans hoping for Samuel to land in Minnesota may be disappointed. A recent update from NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo revealed that the veteran corner is still dealing with lingering symptoms from a neck/shoulder injury that sidelined him for 13 games last season. This ongoing health concern has reportedly cooled interest in him since free agency began in March.

Given the Vikings’ past experience with Danielle Hunter’s neck injury in 2020, the team is likely wary of taking a chance on a player with similar issues. So, while the idea of Samuel joining the Vikings’ secondary was certainly exciting, it now appears unlikely based on his current health status.

That said, circumstances can still change before the 2025 season kicks off. But for now, the Vikings are probably looking elsewhere for cornerback help—either through free agency, trades, or this week’s NFL Draft.

Prioritizing Asante Samuel Jr. in free agency could haunt 49ers

The team’s cornerback unit is already undergoing significant changes. Byron Murphy Jr. was re-signed, but both Stephon Gilmore and Shaquill Griffin, who played major roles in 2024, aren’t expected back. Mekhi Blackmon is returning from a torn ACL, and Jeff Okudah has joined the team via free agency. Despite these moves, Minnesota will likely pursue additional reinforcements at the position before the season begins.
