BREAKING: Red Sox Predicted To Sign Veteran Southpaw To Bolster Bullpen

The Boston Red Sox have been active this offseason, focusing mostly on trades rather than free agency. While adding another impactful bat remains their top priority, the team could also benefit from reinforcing the bullpen.

According to FanSided’s Zachary Rotman, the Red Sox are a strong candidate to sign veteran left-handed reliever Danny Coulombe. Boston is in need of a dependable southpaw out of the bullpen, and Coulombe fits that role well. Although the team could move some surplus starters into relief roles, Coulombe brings experience and proven success as a reliever.

Coulombe posted a 2.30 ERA across 55 appearances split between the Minnesota Twins and Texas Rangers, including an impressive 1.16 ERA in 40 games with Minnesota. His performance dipped with Texas, but he remains a capable bullpen arm. Injuries limited him to 33 games in 2024, though he has been effective overall in recent seasons, recording a 2.47 ERA over 149 appearances since 2023.

With a bullpen that leans heavily right-handed, Coulombe would provide balance. While Boston already has Aroldis Chapman, they still lack a reliable left-handed option to use in key moments before the ninth inning. Coulombe could fill that role at a reasonable cost.

Over his 11-year career, Coulombe has compiled a 3.35 ERA and 312 strikeouts. Though he has minimal postseason experience, his addition would address a major need without requiring a significant financial commitment.
