Colorado sends big message to Jaguars after Travis Hunter pick

Colorado football made its mark in the 2025 NFL Draft, thanks to a bold move by the Jacksonville Jaguars, who shook up the draft order to select Travis Hunter. The Heisman Trophy winner and versatile two-way player was picked second overall by Jacksonville after the team executed a major trade with the Cleveland Browns to acquire the pick.

The Buffaloes quickly responded to the news with a couple of messages on social media. One post, directed at Jacksonville, read, “Jacksonville, y’all got a DAWG,” accompanied by a dog emoji. Another message was aimed at the NFL, saying, “NFL, enjoy 12 on Sundays,” a reference to Hunter’s iconic jersey number.

The idea of Hunter going to Jacksonville gained momentum leading up to the draft. The Jaguars emerged as a team likely to shake up the draft order, and Hunter was aware of their interest in him before the event.

Before the trade was finalized, Hunter sent a message to the man responsible for making it happen: Jaguars general manager James Gladstone, according to Mike Silver of The Athletic. “Yes sir, that’s the best decision,” Hunter told Gladstone.

Hunter’s selection sparked widespread reactions online. He also hit two significant milestones on draft night, as noted by DNVR Buffs: “Travis Hunter is… The highest drafted CB in NFL HISTORY and the first WR to go Top 2 since 2007.”

A fellow Heisman Trophy winner, Robert Griffin III, also reacted by sending a suggestion to the Jaguars’ coaching staff, including head coach Liam Coen and Gladstone. “Let him play both ways Jacksonville!!! Let him be the Shohei Ohtani of American Football,” Griffin III tweeted.

Hunter’s selection marks the highest draft pick ever for a Colorado player, ending a 14-year drought. The last time the Buffaloes had first-round picks was in 2011, with Nate Solder and Jimmy Smith.
