Devastating News: Cubs Loses Another Top Gold Glove Star On IL

The Chicago Cubs placed Gold Glove left fielder on the 10-day injured list due to a left oblique strain.

The move is retroactive till further notice. To fill his spot, the Cubs promoted highly regarded catching prospect Moisés Ballesteros from Triple-A Iowa. In another corresponding move, right-hander Tyson Miller was moved from the 15-day to the 60-day IL due to a left hip impingement.

Top star, 30, hasn’t played since Friday’s 7-2 loss to the New York Mets, where he went 0-for-3 with a walk and began experiencing oblique discomfort. He’s hitting .269 with three home runs and 19 RBIs in 39 games this season.

He was selected by the Cubs ninth overall in the 2015 MLB Draft from the University of Cincinnati. He made his MLB debut in 2017 and has since posted a .249 batting average with 153 home runs and 497 RBIs over 1,028 games.

Happ was an All-Star in 2022 and won the Gold Glove Award for left field in 2022, 2023, and 2024.

Moisés Ballesteros, 21, is the Cubs’ No. 4 prospect and ranks No. 61 overall according to MLB Pipeline. The Venezuelan native is currently batting .368 with four home runs, 18 RBIs, seven doubles, a .420 on-base percentage, and a .522 slugging percentage.
