One fan reacted by saying, “Suarez to the Braves. Ok. Another one gone. Stearns, what are you even doing?” Another added, “Not great. I would have absolutely given that deal to Suarez. Now the Mets have to pivot to Fairbanks or a trade for Trevor Megill.”

Others criticized the front office for the way they handled the pursuit of Suarez, pointing out that the Mets publicly floated him as their fallback plan after losing Diaz, only to watch the price climb beyond what they were willing to pay. Overall, it has been a brutal offseason. The Mets were already coming off a 2025 season in which they missed the playoffs despite having real World Series hopes after the Juan Soto acquisition, and now two key players have walked away.

Spring training is scheduled to begin in February, giving the team a chance to reset after a chaotic winter.
