Good News: Minnesota Vikings Quaeterback JJ McCarthy is Going to be a Father

The Minnesota Vikings are set to kick off their Offseason Team Activities (OTAs) on Wednesday, and no one seems more eager than JJ McCarthy—a sentiment head coach Kevin O’Connell has emphasized on multiple occasions.

Now fully healthy, the Vikings have all but named the former Michigan standout as their starting quarterback for the 2025 season. After losing Daniel Jones to the Colts—where the quarterback competition is seen as less intense—Minnesota signaled to veteran free agents that McCarthy would be given every chance to lead the team in Week 1.

Minnesota Vikings QB JJ McCarthy’s fiance is pregnant

Off the field, McCarthy shared some personal news Thursday night on Instagram: he and his fiancée, Katya Kuropas, are expecting their first child—a baby boy. The couple, who have been together since high school, got engaged in January 2024 and have been in a relationship for six and a half years.

If there’s one thing we’ve learned about JJ McCarthy, it’s that he’s deeply loyal—a quality that sets him apart as a natural leader. Just ask Jim Harbaugh or his former Michigan teammates. Based on everything we’ve seen and heard about him, there’s every reason to believe he’ll also be an outstanding father one day.

McCarthy was selected 10th overall by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2024 NFL Draft, making him the highest-drafted quarterback in the team’s history. In his final season at Michigan, he passed for 2,991 yards, 22 touchdowns, and only 4 interceptions, while leading the nation with a 72.3% completion rate.
