Los Angeles Angels right fielder Mike Trout shared a positive update Tuesday as he continues recovering from a bone bruise on his surgically repaired left knee that has sidelined him for three weeks.
The three-time AL MVP said he felt good after jogging on the field Monday in West Sacramento, Calif., where the Angels are playing the Athletics.
“I came out, I feel good,” Trout told MLB.com. “I’m really excited with where I’m at right now. We’re upping the intensity and there’s no soreness.”
Trout sustained the injury on April 30 while lunging to first base in an attempt to beat out a ground ball. Although there’s still no set timetable for his return, Trout is following a structured rehab plan from the Angels’ medical staff.
“I just trust what they tell me,” he said. “They’ve got a routine for me every day, just building it up and hopefully to get running the bases here. I think running the bases is a big hurdle. Just have to make sure I come in and don’t have any crazy soreness.”
Injuries have disrupted what was once a remarkably durable and dominant career. Trout has played in more than 82 games in only one of the past four seasons, peaking at 119 games in 2022. From 2012–2019, he averaged nearly 145 games per season and appeared in 53 of 60 games in the pandemic-shortened 2020 season.
Now playing right field instead of center, Trout was batting just .179 with a .264 OBP at the time of his injury, though he was still providing power with a .462 slugging percentage, nine home runs, and 18 RBIs in 29 games.
The 11-time All-Star owns a career slash line of .297/.408/.579, with 387 home runs, 972 RBIs, and 214 stolen bases across 1,547 games in 15 MLB seasons.
