As MLB free agency gets underway, teams all around the league are currently making roster changes. After allowing three pitchers to walk on Friday, it looks like the St. Louis Cardinals may be considering some significant pitching changes.

According to reports, the front office chose not to offer pitchers Jorge Alcala, John King, and Sem Robberse contracts. Additionally, the Cardinals asserted that they are treating catcher Yohel Pozo in the same manner. All of the players listed are currently free agents.

“We have decided not to offer RHP Jorge Alcala, LHP John King, C Yohel Pozo, and RHP Sem Robberse contracts for 2026. There are currently 37 players on our 40-player roster.
King and Alcala were part of the Cardinals’ bullpen during the previous season, so the front management is probably looking for fresh talent for those positions. Robberse spent the whole season in the minor league system, so St. Louis should find a replacement for him elsewhere in the organization.

Last season, Jorge Alcala was a member of three different teams, including the Cardinals. With 61 strikeouts in 55.0 innings pitched, he finished the 2025 season with a 6.22 ERA and 1.745 WHIP. John King, meanwhile, completed his third season in St. Louis with a 4.66 ERA, 1.634 WHIP, and 28 strikeouts in 48.1 innings pitched.
The Cardinals may be able to recruit a number of free agents in order to bolster their roster for the upcoming campaign. Changes may be required given that St. Louis concluded the 2025 season with a 78-84 record and missed the playoffs.
