Just In: Bills DC Issues Bold Message Amid Defensive Rookie Freshman Injury

Top star made an immediate impact as a rookie with the Chargers, notching 10.5 sacks in just 12 games to earn the 2016 Defensive Rookie of the Year award. He followed that up with four Pro Bowl appearances over the next five seasons, tallying 47.5 sacks during that span. When healthy, he proved to be one of the league’s most dominant defensive linemen.

However, injuries have become a recurring issue in recent years. He appeared in only 14 games combined in 2022 and 2023, and while he played 14 games last season, his five sacks marked his lowest full-season total outside of 2022, when he was limited to five games. Despite earning a fifth Pro Bowl nod, the Chargers released him this offseason to create cap space.

It didn’t take long for him to land elsewhere, signing a one-year, \$12.6 million deal with the Buffalo Bills, who hope he can be the elite pass rusher they’ve been missing. While injuries are once again a concern, Bills defensive coordinator Bobby Babich expressed confidence in his recovery.

“He doesn’t want to miss practice if he can help it,” Babich said. “I know he’s frustrated—he’s a fierce competitor. But Joey’s working hard, and when he’s ready, he’ll be out there.”

Bills Hoping Joey Bosa Can Make Big Impact in 2025

The Bills decided to part ways with Von Miller this offseason after he fell short of expectations following the six-year, \$120 million deal he signed in 2022. In his place, Buffalo is banking on Joey Bosa to step into that role—this time with far less financial risk involved.

If Bosa can return to form, he could help elevate the Bills’ defensive front into one of the most dangerous in the league, joining forces with Greg Rousseau on the edge and Ed Oliver anchoring the interior. But before that can happen, Bosa must focus on getting healthy. Rest assured, he’s putting in the work behind the scenes, determined to be ready for the 2025 season.
