Broncos linebacker saw his 2024 season end prematurely due to a torn ACL sustained during a win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers early in the year. Recently, the veteran joined the team at DNVR to share an update on his recovery process and expressed his enthusiasm about teaming up with newly acquired linebacker Dre Greenlaw.
He told DNVR’s Zac Stevens that his rehab is going well, he’s on track, and he’s gradually getting back into team activities. While he couldn’t give an exact return date—per Sean Payton’s policy on injury disclosures—Singleton offered reassurance, saying there should be “no worries about 49 playing this year.”
That’s encouraging news for a Broncos defense that struggled at linebacker after his injury. Although Cody Barton and Justin Strnad had some solid moments, the linebacker group ultimately became a weak point that opponents exploited down the stretch. Recognizing this, Sean Payton and GM George Paton made bolstering the linebacker corps a top priority this offseason, starting with the free-agent signing of former 49ers standout Dre Greenlaw. Despite recovering from an Achilles injury sustained in the Super Bowl loss to the Chiefs, Greenlaw is expected to make a significant impact when healthy.
A fully recovered Greenlaw alongside a healthy Singleton could give Denver a much stronger linebacker unit than last season. Singleton shared his excitement about Greenlaw’s arrival, telling Stevens the two have been training together and are eager to hit the field. He noted that even people within the organization didn’t expect such a strong defensive focus this offseason, and based on the upgrades, he’s “really, really excited” for what’s ahead.
This offseason, Denver has significantly reshaped its defense. In addition to signing Greenlaw and his former 49ers teammate, safety Talanoa Hufanga, the Broncos drafted cornerback Jahdae Barron in the first round. They also brought back nose tackle D.J. Jones, retained Singleton, and selected edge rushers Sai’vion Jones and Que Robinson to develop for the future.
