JUST IN: Cubs Manager Craig Counsell Provides Groundbreaking Kyle Tucker Update

While many hoped Tucker would return to the field, manager Craig Counsell provided an update on his situation.

“Tucker’s DH-ing,” Counsell told The Athletic’s Sahadev Sharma. “Things might change. Right now, I don’t see why that should change.

This comes as the Cubs attempt to keep Tucker’s bat in the lineup while avoiding another trip to the injured list. Seiya Suzuki has been a major reason why Chicago hasn’t had to move Tucker back to right field.

“He’s playing well, and I think he feels good out there,” Counsell told Sharma. “I think he knows this is his job now.”

Versatility is especially evident in the playoffs, and the Cubs are benefiting from it. Tucker’s ability to continue batting increases Chicago’s chances of scoring runs.

It seems sense to avoid rushing Tucker back into things. Even if he does not re-sign with the team, an injury would only reduce his value in free agency, and no manager would jeopardize his long-term health or the opportunity to negotiate a large multi-year contract, as he is expected to do.

The Cubs will most likely continue to faith in Suzuki’s outfield abilities into the postseason. If the Cubs continue to improve, they will adjust their lineup less regularly, if at all.
