The Sacramento Kings have made it official—Doug Christie is now the team’s full-time head coach after stepping in following the dismissal of Mike Brown. A familiar face within the organization and a respected voice in the locker room, Christie now has the opportunity to lead the team through a pivotal chapter as they aim to reclaim their spot in the Western Conference playoff picture.
After a disappointing early exit in the Play-In Tournament, the Kings are looking to reset and make a stronger push next season. Christie, known for his basketball IQ and emotional investment in the team, recognizes that one of the keys to that turnaround lies in the hands of star forward Domantas Sabonis. The two have already started building on their connection off the court.
“Domantas reached out—we exchanged some messages and had a few conversations,” Christie shared during an interview with Sactown Sports 1140. “We didn’t dive too deep into our working relationship. It was more about life. But I love him to death.”

Christie’s admiration for Sabonis goes beyond just stats or performance. “He’s played a major role in a lot of what I’ve accomplished so far,” he said. “He’s incredibly talented and one of the most humble players I’ve been around.” With mutual respect between coach and star, the Kings may have found the chemistry they need to fuel a return to postseason success.
