Former Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze says he’s still “angry” about being let go midseason and is determined to get back into coaching. Speaking Tuesday on the See Ball Get Ball with David Pollack podcast, Freeze made his first public remarks since Auburn fired him on Nov. 2 and later moved on by hiring South Florida head coach Alex Golesh.

“I’m kind of pissed off,” Freeze said. “I’ve got something to prove. If someone out there wants that, my track record speaks for itself.”
Freeze was dismissed the day after Auburn fell 10–3 at home to Kentucky, a loss that dropped the team to 4–5 overall and 1–5 in the SEC. His three seasons at Auburn concluded with a 15–19 overall record, including 6–16 in conference play.
“I’ve won everywhere except Auburn,” Freeze admitted. “You have to face that. It’s humbling. But I’m grateful to Auburn, to President Chris Roberts and John Cohen for the opportunity, and I hate that we couldn’t finish the job.”

Even with his struggles on the Plains, Freeze holds a 91–66 career record over 15 seasons as a head coach, not counting 27 vacated wins at Ole Miss stemming from NCAA penalties.
Auburn closed the season 5–7 under interim coach DJ Durkin, who will remain defensive coordinator on Golesh’s staff.
