A few months back, the Seattle Mariners made a huge transaction at the trade deadline to acquire expiring slugger Eugenio Suárez. However, the slugger is currently in free agency after his contract expired at the end of the season.

The Mariners may be able to re-sign him, but it might be costly. Jim Bowden of The Athletic recently predicted that Suárez would receive a $72 million contract this winter.
46 voters were polled by MLB.cm. When asked where the top free agents would sign this winter, the vast majority (39 percent) said the Mariners would keep Suárez.

Mariners expected to re-sign Eugenio Suárez in free agency
Nearly four out of ten MLB.com voters anticipate that Suárez will remain in the Pacific Northwest following his return to Seattle following the Trade Deadline. The cherished veteran spent 2022–2023 as a Mariner before being moved to the D-backs following that second season. But before to the team’s journey to Game 7 of the ALCS, Arizona shipped him back to Seattle at this year’s Deadline, according to MLB’s Mark Feinsand. “A trip down the West Coast to Anaheim would be an intriguing move for Suárez as well, coming off a 49-homer season. The Mariners were one of just three teams to hit more home runs than the Angels last season.

“Kansas City, where the Royals only placed 26th in MLB in that metric in 2025, would really benefit from his power. Given that the 34-year-old’s output declined after the move last summer, it is unclear how motivated the Mariners will be to continue their relationship with him this time. In 106 games with the D-backs, Suárez hit 36 home runs and had an OPS of.897; in 53 games with the Mariners, he had 13 home runs and an OPS of.682.

If the Mariners are interested in Josh Naylor, this move makes sense.
Although Naylor should be the team’s first concern, there should be other priorities as well. In addition to Cal Raleigh, finding a deal for Suárez would help maintain some pop in the lineup.
Suárez is a better fit for the Mariners than anyone else. The team could always use a slugger like him in the lineup, and he seems to be highly popular in Seattle.
