JUST IN: Mets lands blockbuster deal for $340 million three-time All-Star, would create outfield Big 3 with Juan Soto, Brandon Nimmo

Before they crashed and burned in the second half and missed the playoffs, the New York Mets were playing well for the majority of the season. To ensure they don’t fail once more, they must now make a big impression this offseason.

Fansided’s Christopher Kline thinks the Mets could be a top trade option for San Diego Padres All-Star Fernando Tatis Jr. in light of Pete Alonso’s potential exit.

Juan Soto and Brandon Nimmo became the corner outfield pillars for the New York Mets, but centerfield is still largely empty at the moment. Tyrone Taylor isn’t producing nearly enough offensively to hold down the fort, and the Cedric Mullins deal didn’t exactly work out. Carson Benge, a top prospect, should be included sooner rather than later, but Tatis matches GM David Stearns’ incredibly alluring image as a plus-defending, high-slugging outfielder who can run the bases, draw walks, and get on base frequently. He may clear the path for Soto’s eventual transition to DH and protect him in lieu of free agent Pete Alonso, who is anticipated to leave,” Kline said.

Tatis Jr. finished the previous season with a slash of.268/.368/.446/.814, 27 doubles, 25 home runs, 71 RBI, and 32 stolen bases in 155 games. His defense at Citi Field would be exceptional because he has won two Platinum Gloves.

The Mets would have the best outfield in the National League, if not the whole MLB, if Tatis Jr. were paired with Juan Soto and Brandon Nimmo. They must go all out to get him if they can.

If they don’t, the Padres will be in contact with another competitor who needs a talented outfielder in an attempt to reach an agreement before New York.
