JUST IN: Oliver Marmol makes ‘unexpected’ announcement regarding Cardinals’ Ivan Herrera ahead of trade deadline after ‘terrible’ injury setback

Ivan Herrera, the Cardinals’ catcher/designated hitter, is projected to miss two to six weeks with a Grade 2 strain in his left hamstring, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Herrera, 25, was placed on the 10-day injured list on Friday, one day after sustaining an injury during the opening game of a doubleheader against the Chicago White Sox. It is his second trip on the IL this season.

Herrera is batting. 320 with eight home runs and 36 RBIs in 42 games this season.

“This is unfortunate. He’s been doing an excellent job. Swinging a really hot bat. Simply put, he poses a significant offensive danger. “We’ll miss that,” Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said.

Herrera, for his part, is dealing with the injury in a positive manner.

“Things could be worse. “It could be the entire year,” he told the Post-Dispatch. “… I’ll still be able to play a variety of games. That is a positive. I’m going to keep working hard to get stronger each day I’m here.

“It’s just another rock on my path, and I feel like I’m just going to come back stronger.”
