Matt LaFleur and the Green Bay Packers are aiming to take a significant step forward in the 2025 NFL season. Over the past two years, they’ve been on the verge of contention in the NFC but have failed to make a deep playoff run. Despite expectations for an aggressive offseason, the Packers took a more conservative approach. However, they did manage to land two notable free agents—offensive lineman Aaron Banks and cornerback Nate Hobbs. In the 2025 NFL Draft, general manager Brian Gutekunst focused heavily on the offensive side, selecting Texas wide receiver Matthew Golden in the first round and TCU’s Savion Williams in the third.
Looking at the roster, Green Bay appears capable of making a Super Bowl push. While they face a tough challenge in the competitive NFC North, the talent is there to contend.
That said, the Packers may face a crowded situation at wide receiver. In addition to the newly drafted Golden and Williams, the roster already features Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, Christian Watson, Dontayvion Wicks, and Bo Melton. To address this logjam, Green Bay could consider exploring trade opportunities. ESPN’s Bill Barnwell sees Doubs as the most likely candidate to be moved before the season begins. Since being drafted in 2022, Doubs has become a reliable target, though he was suspended for a week last season after missing two practices.
Entering the final year of his rookie deal and set to earn $3.4 million, Doubs could bring back draft capital if dealt, especially since Gutekunst has shown a willingness to reshape the roster with key additions like Jacobs, McKinney, and Hobbs. Trading Doubs now could secure a return and prevent any complications if he loses snaps during the season.
In 2024, Doubs appeared in 13 games, tallying 46 receptions for 601 yards and four touchdowns. Over his three-year career, he’s recorded 147 catches for 1,700 yards and 15 scores in 43 games. With the 2025 season approaching, expect trade speculation around the Packers to continue. While the team could choose to keep its wide receiver depth intact, parting with a veteran like Doubs remains a real possibility.
