JUST IN: Phillies Are Replacing Kyle Schwarber With ‘Veteran’ $80 Million Star

The Philadelphia Phillies could find themselves in a difficult position this offseason. Kyle Schwarber is set to hit free agency during what has been the best season of his career, and he’s likely to command a contract north of \$100 million. It’s uncertain whether the Phillies will be able to retain him or be forced to seek a replacement.

MLB insider Mark Feinsand recently identified the Phillies as a possible destination for Yankees outfielder Cody Bellinger, who can opt out of his deal at the end of the season. Bellinger is currently in year two of a three-year, \$80 million contract, but most around the league expect him to decline his \$25 million player option and test the open market.

After an inconsistent 2024 season with the Cubs, Bellinger has bounced back in New York, posting 24 home runs, 75 RBIs, and an .823 OPS over 116 games, which has him on pace for another 4-WAR campaign. His resurgence has made him an excellent fit with the Yankees, though rival clubs may look to lure the former NL MVP away with a long-term deal that has eluded him so far.

If the Phillies are unable to bring back Schwarber—a decision still very much undecided—Bellinger would be a strong fallback. He brings more athleticism, the ability to handle center field at a high level, and a productive bat. While he wouldn’t fully replace Schwarber’s offensive firepower, Bellinger would give Philadelphia a valuable blend of hitting and defense, making him an ideal contingency plan.

Phillies Signing Kyle Schwarber To Long-Term Extension Should Be No-Brainer
