JUST IN: Phillies Double Down $210M Will Land 5-Time All-Star, For Bryce Harper’s Place

The Philadelphia Phillies will have their hands full this winter as they strive to build the greatest possible squad. One of the most important players they’ll have to decide on is Kyle Schwarber, but re-signing him might be hazardous owing to his enormous salary.

“The Phillies should not sign Schwarber to another multi-year contract. Not signing him would affect the team’s offensive performance, and the executive management must devise a strategy to replace the home run hitter. However, what if they bring him back for several years and he starts to deteriorate? “Either decision carries some risk,” TBOH’s Matt Grazel noted. “This roster need significant modifications. While controversial and dangerous, Dombrowski’s choice not to re-sign Schwarber provides the best opportunity to freshen up the squad, which is critical at this stage.”

Instead, the Phillies may target their opponent, the New York Mets, and seek franchise home run leader Pete Alonso—a move that would undoubtedly surprise.

“The Phillies could utilize Alonso at first base and Bryce Harper move back to the outfield, a position of need for the team depending on what the front office does this winter,” Eric Beaston, of Bleacher Report, said.

Would Mets slugger Pete Alonso be a good fit with Red Sox?

Such a move would significantly assist the Phillies, especially if Schwarber is not reinstated. Philadelphia has become a desired spot to play in recent seasons. However, signing Alonso would come at a significant cost.

“Predicted Contract: 7 Years, $210 Million,” Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter stated.

If Alonso returns to the City of Brotherly Love, Bryce Harper will most likely have to return to the outfield. This would not be a tough move, considering Nick Castellanos is anticipated to be released or moved before the 2026 season.

Alonso is one of the top first basemen in the game, thus this is a significant acquisition. This audacious move by the Phillies has the potential to deal a significant blow to the Mets.
