JUST IN: Phillies Receive Bad News On Ranger Suárez After Arizona Diamondbacks Game

Corbin Carroll homered and drove in four runs, Eduardo Rodriguez threw six shutout innings, and the Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 9-2 on Sunday, bringing them within a game of the last National League wild-card berth.

Carroll scored a run in the first inning against Ranger Suárez (12-7) before hitting a three-run homer in the second. He also stole second in the sixth, becoming the first Arizona player to have 30 home runs (31) and 30 stolen bases in a single season.

Rodriguez (9-8) allowed six hits, five strikeouts, and three walks. Jorge Barrosa blasted his first major league home run, while Tim Tawa added another solo drive.

The Diamondbacks have won six of their last eight games, putting them in the middle of the wild-card chase as the season comes to a close. Cincinnati trounced the Chicago Cubs on Sunday, tying with the struggling New York Mets for the last NL postseason spot.

Alec Bohm went 4-for-4 for the NL East champion Phillies.

Suárez had been sharp in his previous five outings, giving only four earned runs in 30 innings.

The Diamondbacks scored more than that against the lefty in the second inning. Ketel Marte blasted a two-run single, and Carroll followed with a three-run homer to put Arizona ahead 6-0.

Suárez allowed six runs on eight hits in four innings, striking out two and walking one.

Key moment
After coming in for Rodriguez in the seventh, Philip Abner got Kyle Schwarber to ground into an inning-ending double play with runners on first and third.

Rodriguez has given up just six earned runs across 29 1/3 innings in his last five starts, all of which resulted in Arizona victories.

On Tuesday, Phillies left-hander Cristopher Sánchez (13–5, 2.66 ERA) will start the opener of a three-game set against Miami. Meanwhile, Diamondbacks righty Brandon Pfaadt (13–8, 5.02 ERA) will take the mound to begin their three-game series with the Dodgers.
