Alec Bohm lifted a sacrifice fly in the 10th inning to help the Philadelphia Phillies secure a 3-1 win over the Chicago Cubs on Sunday night.
Trea Turner led the offense with three hits and two RBIs as Philadelphia claimed the weekend series, taking two of three games. Aaron Nola rebounded from a rough start to the season, throwing seven strong innings and allowing just three hits.
In the 10th, J.T. Realmuto and Max Kepler drew walks from Cubs reliever Julian Merryweather (0-1) to load the bases. Bohm followed with a deep fly to right, bringing home Nick Castellanos. After another walk by Bryson Stott reloaded the bases, Turner delivered an infield single to third, allowing Kepler to score.
José Alvarado (3-0) earned the win with a scoreless frame, and Jordan Romano shut the door in the 10th for his second save.
Cubs starter Jameson Taillon was solid, allowing five hits over seven innings, and now holds a 2.08 ERA over his past three outings, all no-decisions.
Ryan Pressly, appearing for the first time since having fluid drained from his knee, pitched the ninth for Chicago. He retired Castellanos on a deep fly to end the inning with a runner on.
Chicago took an early lead in the second inning when Nico Hoerner doubled and scored on a Pete Crow-Armstrong double. The Phillies tied it in the third when Stott tripled and came home on Turner’s RBI single.
