Latest: Bills’ Super Bowl Hopes Hang On 1 Key Thing

The Buffalo Bills have a strong chance to contend for a Super Bowl in 2025, but one crucial area could ultimately determine their fate.

In 2024, Buffalo was among the most consistent teams in the league. Led by Josh Allen, the offense lit up the scoreboard, averaging an impressive 30.9 points per game.

However, the defense struggled at key moments—particularly with getting off the field—which proved costly in their playoff loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

In response, general manager Brandon Beane targeted pass rushers in free agency, bringing in Joey Bosa, Michael Hoecht, and Larry Ogunjobi as major additions. But the question remains: are these moves enough to elevate the Bills into the league’s elite?

According to Bucky Brooks of Fox Sports, they just might be. In his latest power rankings, he placed Buffalo at No. 2, citing a revamped defense as a major reason.

“After falling short of the Super Bowl despite having the league’s most dynamic offense, GM Brandon Beane focused the offseason on shoring up a defense that faltered in critical moments,” Brooks wrote.

“The Bills added several pass rushers (Joey Bosa, Landon Jackson, TJ Sanders, and Deone Walker) and secondary reinforcements (Maxwell Hairston, Tre’Davious White, Jordan Hancock, and Dorian Strong) to better close out games against top-tier opponents.

“If Allen and the offense keep pushing teams into high-scoring affairs, this retooled defense should be better prepared to handle those challenges.”

With Joe Brady returning as offensive coordinator and new addition Joshua Palmer joining the receiver group, Buffalo’s offense is expected to remain among the NFL’s best.

But the team’s championship hopes may hinge on how well the defense gels under Sean McDermott. If the new additions can increase pressure and get stops late in games, it could be just what the Bills need to finally break through.

This offseason has clearly prioritized fixing the defense, and the Bills are banking on those improvements making all the difference.

Their Super Bowl aspirations could very well depend on it.
