LATEST: Orioles fans can’t believe where Brandon Hyde might end up next

Brandon Hyde was fired as the Baltimore Orioles’ manager midway through the 2025 season. Following back-to-back appearances to the MLB playoffs, Hyde’s squad was expected to compete for the AL East championship this season. Instead, he was fired after going 15-28 and replaced by interim manager Tony Mansolino.

Hyde has been quite vocal about his firing, and he has used several opportunities with the media to blame everyone in the Orioles organization but himself for Baltimore’s shortcomings this season. And, while his lack of self-awareness is extremely nauseating, it appears to have served him well.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Buster Posey has spoken with Hyde about replacing Bob Melvin as the San Francisco Giants’ manager. Melvin was fired after the 2025 regular season concluded at the end of September.

John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle was quick to point out that Hyde isn’t necessarily a candidate for the Giants’ opening. But, as a resident of nearby Santa Rosa, California, with a proven track record, he could be in the mix. Hyde is not known to have a tight relationship with Posey, but he has led the Orioles to three consecutive winning seasons after losing 110 games in 2021.

Nick Hundley, a former Major League catcher, is viewed as the most likely candidate to replace the Giants’ opening right now. Posey, a former catcher, is believed to be targeting former backstops. The Giants have not had a consistent voice in the dugout since Bruce Bochy’s departure in 2019.

While Hyde may not be the front-runner for the Giants’ position, there are plenty other openings this offseason. Mike Shildt, the San Diego Padres’ manager, just announced his retirement, leaving the Friars without a voice in the clubhouse. In addition to the Giants, Orioles, and Padres, the Atlanta Braves, Colorado Rockies, Minnesota Twins, Washington Nationals, and Los Angeles Angels all have openings. The Texas Rangers have already replaced Bochy with Skip Schumaker.
