The New York Giants opened their 2025 NFL season on a rough note, falling 21-6 to division rival Washington Commanders. To make matters worse, the Giants failed to find the end zone, settling for just two field goals despite having chances to score. One of the most glaring missteps came at the one-yard line, where New York opted not to run the ball. That call drew frustration from running back Tyrone Tracy Jr., who was far from pleased with the decision.

Reflecting on the crucial goal-line play, Tyrone Tracy Jr. didn’t hold back in voicing his frustration with offensive coordinator Mike Kafka’s call. According to Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post, Tracy made it clear he believed running the ball was the right choice. “I have to do what’s called, but I definitely said we needed to run the ball on the 1-yard line. I feel like everyone felt the same — whether it’s offensive line, quarterback, running back. To do the play-action pass off the 1-yard line, you have to run the ball first,” Tracy explained.

While hindsight often makes questionable decisions stand out, Tracy’s criticism carries weight. Passing near the goal line is rarely a safe bet, particularly when a capable back like Tracy could have powered it in. Still, Week 1 wasn’t kind to him either, as he managed just 24 yards on 10 carries. The air attack wasn’t much better, with Russell Wilson completing 17 of 37 throws for 168 yards, without a touchdown or an interception.

The Giants’ offensive showing was nothing short of embarrassing, exposing several flaws that must be addressed quickly with a tough Week 2 road matchup against the Dallas Cowboys looming.
All eyes will be on how the Giants respond offensively in Week 2. Facing the Cowboys on the road is no small task, and finding a way to score touchdowns will be critical. The pressure is on the coaching staff to make the right adjustments and get the offense moving in the right direction. While Tracy voiced his frustration after the opener, nothing would ease that tension more than a statement win in Dallas.
