Left-hander Caleb Ferguson has agreed to a one-year contract with the Cincinnati Reds, pending a physical, according to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal. Meanwhile, right-hander Gregory Santos signed a minor-league deal with the San Francisco Giants, as first reported by Mike Rodriguez. As of Wednesday afternoon, neither signing had been officially announced. Francys Romero added that Santos’ contract would pay $1.3 million if he earns a spot on the Giants’ major league roster.

Ferguson, 29, experienced mixed results during his time in Seattle after being acquired at the trade deadline. In the regular season, he went 3-2 with a 3.27 ERA, striking out 17 batters while walking eight over 22 innings.

His postseason outings were far less successful, as he allowed three runs without recording an out in Game 3 of the AL Division Series and surrendered two runs over two innings in Game 3 of the AL Championship Series.
The Mariners acquired Ferguson on July 30 in a trade with Pittsburgh that sent pitching prospect Jeter Martinez to the Pirates.
Santos, 26, will look to revive his career with San Francisco after an injury-filled and underwhelming stint in Seattle. He joined the Mariners in a February 2024 trade with the Chicago White Sox that cost Seattle right-hander Prelander Berroa, outfielder Zach DeLoach, and a 2024 Competitive Balance Round B draft pick.

Across two seasons with Seattle, Santos appeared in just 16 games, logging 14 1/3 innings. He recorded a 5.02 ERA and 1.67 WHIP, with nine walks and six strikeouts. Seattle non-tendered him in November.

A native of San Cristóbal in the Dominican Republic, Santos previously spent time in the Giants’ system from 2017 to 2021 and made five major league appearances with San Francisco during the 2020 and 2021 seasons.
