Thompson wrapped up the 2024 campaign with five catches totaling 126 yards and a touchdown, then followed that with 17 receptions for 154 yards during the 2025 season.

A highly touted prospect coming out of high school, Thompson was rated as a four-star recruit and ranked as the No. 5 player in Alabama for the 2024 class, according to the 247Sports Composite. Nationally, he was evaluated as the No. 11 wide receiver and the No. 44 overall recruit in the country.

Tigers of the Game: The Ashford-Frazier connection is special

Another program will look to give Thompson a clean slate after he saw limited production over the past two years at Auburn.

The Tigers, meanwhile, are entering a new era following the hiring of Alex Golesh as their next head coach last Sunday. Golesh signed a six-year contract with the university after a successful three-season run leading the South Florida Bulls.

Practice Observations: Auburn football is sticking to its guns

During his tenure at USF, Golesh posted a 23–15 record and guided the Bulls to a 9-3 finish this year — the program’s best season since 2017, when Charlie Strong led them to a 10-2 campaign.

Golesh now steps into the challenge of restoring Auburn to championship contention in both the SEC and nationally. The Tigers ended the 2025 season at 5-7, missing out on a bowl for the second consecutive year.
